Wyckaert will continue to focus on sustainable entrepreneurship

For the fifth year in a row, Wyckaert is committed to achieving the Sustainable Business Charter. We will take at least 10 actions around the 17 UN sustainability goals, with at least 1 action within 4 of the 5 Ps: People, Prosperity, P
UN sustainable development goals

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals are the goals the world has set itself for 2030 to work towards sustainable development. The 17 main objectives and 169 sub-objectives form the most important international sustainability framework for the coming years. Industry plays an important role in this ambitious and groundbreaking task. Wyckaert is also committed to using the sustainable development goals as a critical reflection framework for future-oriented business strategies.

A number of environmental targets

We aim to focus even more on the rational use of water, energy and fuels this year. When building the new Wyckaert office building, sustainability was chosen from the outset. A  Borehole Thermal Energy Storage (BTES) system was created. This means that energy is extracted from the ground to cool and heat the buildings. In combination with the solar panels, these modern techniques enable us to meet our energy needs almost completely independently.

We also pay attention to the ecologically and economically responsible use of water, energy and fuels on our construction sites. For example, at a site in Aalst, we made the pumped-out water available to local residents. The water is not drinkable, but can be used to fill cisterns and water plants.

It doesn’t stop there. Wyckaert has joined a platform that brings suppliers of drainage water into contact with companies that need water.

We are also taking concrete actions in the other areas that the UN puts first, but more about that in a subsequent article.
