Water is made available to local residents by Wyckaert

Flanders has one of the lowest water availability per inhabitant, due to a combination of a high population density and a relatively limited presence of surface and groundwater.

Climate change brings this fragile balance out of balance and already caused extreme drought in the summers of 2011, 2017 and 2018. The economic consequences cannot be underestimated.

Reuse of water

Where possible, Wyckaert is happy to contribute to the preservation of our environment. At our construction site in Aalst where we are building 40 apartments, 2 commercial spaces and 6 houses, the groundwater that is pumped away is collected in a water tank and made available to local residents. The water is not drinkable, but can be used to fill cisterns and water plants.

Charter Duurzaam Ondernemen = Charter Sustainable Entrepreneurship

This initiative dovetails perfectly with the Charter Sustainable Entrepreneurship that Wyckaert obtained for the fourth time in 2019. Companies that commit themselves to this Charter go beyond what is strictly required by law in terms of the environment, safety and people-friendly enterprise. They are committed to using the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals as a critical reflection framework for business strategies.
